The Slovaks launched a project and activities a few years ago to bring wines from the Danube region closer to European winelovers. The goal was to improve wine identity of countries through which the Danube flows and which constitute the vinegrowing heart of Europe. As part of this project, the international wine competition called the Danube Wine Challenge will be organized for the sixth time on April 16th and 17th in Komarno, in the south of Slovakia. The organizers of the competition are the "Danube Wine Route" and "Danube Wine" Association, in cooperation with the Union of Oenologists of Slovakia and the Association of winemakers and vinegrowers of Slovakia.

The registration of wine for the competition runs until April 6th, 2018. The fee for participation in the competition is 20 EUR per label. In addition to standard rating system and awards in accordance with the OIV rules, the competition will reward the best Blaufrankisch and trophy will be awarded to the best wine of the Danube Wine Route.
