FRAJLA AT INTERFEST 2014

Interfest 2014             With the arrival of summer, when the streets and boulevards of Novi Sad echo with joyful steps of passers-by, it is a definite indication that INTERFEST is approaching ... Wine festival in the center of Novi Sad, which has stood the test of time for 11 years and continues its mission of spreading and promoting wine culture, was scheduled in the period from 19th June, 2014 till 21st June, 2014.And simultaneously with the announcement of another Interfest,  a series of verbal attacks and criticism gets launched by a few individuals who talk at great lengths to convince us that it is a local fair, a street parade, an event for the masses, that the weather will be scorching hot during the festival (what a surprising weather in June!!!)... And every year I wonder why they don't employ their creative energy for a more beneficial purpose. Eh, if instead of firing bitter comments, they would go out and do some activity, such as picking strawberries or other seasonal fruit, it would do them some good at least - at least bring them some extra income... So they might use this income to take the next flight to Provence or any other destination in south France.  There they would realize that each tourist spot which keeps up its reputation organizes Fête du Vin... Wine feast... or translated into Serbian: Interfest or Zemun Wine Square. From Provence and attractive destinations such as Saint-Remy-De-Provence, Cassis and Cairanne, over the Rhone valley and Vaucluse, Luberon and Ventoux, all the way to Côte d'Azure... From May till October, outdoor wine fairs alternate and invite visitors and numerous tourists to learn more about local wines and producers, taste and buy wines that will be subsequently shared with family and friends at home.
That's why every year I go to Novi Sad at Interfest, to give my contribution to the event which promotes wine culture in Novi Sad.  I am sure that thanks to Interfest, a large number of casual passers-by have been transformed during the evening into curious future wine lovers, who spontaneously  and suddenly discover a whole new world, the new names of grape varieties and wines, wineries that had never heard of, or learned for the first time how to hold a glass of wine properly ...

One might expect that such an event attracts mostly local wineries from Vojvodina province, but every year, the organizers invite also wineries from the region (Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia). This year the winemakers of Dubrovnik-Neretva county also presented their wines, including Plavac Mali.

Interfest doesn't lack either the special  new releases and new wines, so Mackov Podrum Winery released for the first time their new rose wine. This famous winery from Irig prepared for this summer a rose wine made from Portugieser (2013), that is really something that wine lovers from Serbia did not have a chance to taste until now. This winery consistently insists on affirming Portugieser's reputation as an indigenous variety of Fruška Gora.

Frajla  (Ger. Fräulein) is not a demanding wine ... She's young, fresh, seductive ... Already in the glass Frajla attracts attention with her subtle pink colour supported by mild copper shades. With 12 g / l residual sugar, the wine is moving on fine border between the semi-dry and semi-sweet, and the impression you have in your mouth will depend on the choice of pairing dishes. Portugieser variety is characterized by low acidity, so Frajla follows this pattern in terms of acidity: 5.68 g / l. The wine contains 13.5% alcohol. It is obtained by cold maceration (8-10 degrees) for a period of 2 hours. The nose is dominated by discrete floral notes, with hints of cherry and pomegranate. On the palate, persistent minerality adds to pleasant sensation. Light-bodied and with pleasant aftertaste.
Apart from this, Frajla from Mačkov Podrum Winery is the first wine made by young oenologist Nemanja Teslic (1989) who got his first job after graduation at Mačkov Podrum Winery.
Obviously, Frajla found its target group of consumers at this year's Interfest. Given that Mačkov Podrum Winery already exports its wines outside Serbia (USA, Poland, etc) with success, I think that this style of wine would quickly gain popularity on the Polish market.
