VINEGROWING ŠUMADIJA

At the end of December 2019, publishing company Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia and NGO Wine Expert from Kragujevac published a book dedicated to Šumadija, one of the major wine regions of Serbia, entitled VINEGROWING ŠUMADIJA. The author of the book is Zoran Dragoljević Žorž, a writer, keen photographer, wine knight and founder of the regional wine event "Kragujevac Wine Salon".

The book, of superior print quality, is published in large format (240 x 300 mm), 288 pages, hard cover and lavishly featuring photographs, maps, charts and wine-themed drawings by J. Vlahović ("vinorelle"). The preface to the book entitled "Wine and Šumadija" is written by Vidosav Stevanović, who says about Šumadija wines: "The least what I can say about these wines and repeat if necessary is that they are authentic, sophisticated, terroir-driven, original and in harmony with nature, seasoned and enriched with aromas and flavors of the herbs, fruit, berries and flowers around you, that they show typicity and origin, they're easy to remember and hard to forget. "

Through 11 chapters, the topics are covered in detail: The History and Terroir of Vinegrowing Serbia, Wine Grape Varieties, Wines and Wineries of Šumadija, Wine map of Šumadija, Wine and Food Pairing, Calendar of wine events, Šumadija Wine Route, Šumadija Wine Association, Šumadija Wine Knights' Association and a wine dictionary. The chapter "Wines and wineries of Šumadija" presents all 26 registered wineries of Šumadija and traditional wine cellar of the monastery Drača near Kragujevac, describes in detail all 156 wine labels produced by Šumadija winemakers with 274 hectares of their vineyards.

A significant and very important chapter in the book is "History of Vinegrowing in Serbia", which presents in detail historical facts and artifacts about the long tradition of grapevine cultivation, old and indigenous grape varieties and wine production in this region. Parts of the text were used from the website
www.vinopedia.rs
and the author of the book Zoran Dragoljević Žorž points out in his letter of thanks:

"I would like to thank Tomislav Ivanović, wine journalist, critic, international judge on wine competitions, contributor to wine magazines, author and editor of one of the most respected websites who has contributed greatly to dissemination of wine culture and valuable information about Serbian wines and beyond. I am especially grateful to Tomislav for the valuable data and texts in the section "Wine History", parts of which I have borrowed from

and presented in the book "Vinegrowing Šumadija. "
