WINE DIARY - WINELOVER'S MEMORIES

Wine diary 2

An inevitable companion of every winelover, both an amateur and a professional, is his/her diary. A place where comments and tasting notes are kept, a reminder that we can consult later on when we need info about a winery or wines that we tasted.

Most often, it's an ordinary notebook, primarily something that you can easily put in a rucksack or suitcase. And for those who pay attention to detail and order (especially if you lack calligraphic writing skills), there are also printed wine diaries.

Undoubtedly, the most popular wine journal is the one that has been printed by the Italian manufacturer of diaries and paper accessories Moleskine for years. It is certainly the most expensive choice, but the price also includes hard cover made of artificial leather, 240 pages, and for amateurs, an attached set of self-adhesive labels which will make wine tasting fun, similar to filling out a lexicon while you were a schoolboy. Customers adore its simple modern design and the fact that they are in some way a status symbol used by the most famous stars of wine journalism. It can be purchased online or if you are transiting through some of the major airports in Europe. The price is 20 EUR.

Another option is The Wine Journal by Jennifer McCartney that contains over 270 pages and a soft-cover edition costs $ 11.5. You can order it online and it is known as USA's most popular option owing to its price.

A slightly different version is Life by the Glass - A Winelover's Journal, which costs about $ 14 and it is also available for online purchase. This diary is, in fact, a combination of a notebook for tasting notes and a manual containing the basics of wine culture, an overview of the most important grape varieties, food and wine matching rules, etc.

Recently, a local version of the wine journal has appeared in Serbia too, so if you are not familiar with online shopping, then you can also buy a local wine journal. The Wine Diary has been published by the Association "Women and Wine" from Novi Sad. The price is considerably more affordable than its peers abroad (4.2 EUR), but the cover and binding are more modest. However, it is quite sufficient to meet the needs of taking wine tasting notes on 160 pages. The wine diary is bilingual (in Serbian and English) and the publisher offers an option of creating a personalized version. Ordering is done by e-mail: zeneivino.ns@gmail.com.
