VRANAC IN A CLUSTER OF THE WORST RATED WINES IN RUSSIA

Roskachestvo, an official Russian institution that deals with quality control of goods and services in Russia, also evaluates the quality of imported products on the Russian market as part of its activities. The Roskachestvo organization recently conducted an independent evaluation of the most popular imported wines with a price tag below 1,000 rubles in Russian stores. The full results of this evaluation will be announced in April, but already now this organization has published a list of the worst-ranked imported wines.

More than 120 imported wines from 13 countries were evaluated in the price category up to 1,000 rubles. The expert jury singled out the worst ranked wines that were at the bottom of the table. Among them, the most represented were wines from Georgia, but wines of the well-known global brand such as Asti Martini and Asti Mondoro also received no praise from the jury.

Blind tasting was carried out by the tasting jury of the accredited laboratory, and the wines were selected by analysts from Roskachestvo who picked the most popular labels from each of the leading countries importing wine to Russia, with sales volume ranging between 183,000 liters and 11 million liters.

Vranac under the label Brojanica from the industrial winery Vino Župa got its place on the list of the worst rated wines, with the score of 67.7 points (on a 100-point-scale). According to the jury, this reveals wines with significant aromatic flaws in flavour and aroma to which the jury paid special attention ( wines of poor quality). The wine is in the category of table wines, i.e. wine made from grapes without geographical origin.

Such results should not become commonplace because Vino Župa winery would eventually ruin its own brand image and negatively affect its position on the Russian market, but at the same time damage the image and perception of Serbian wines and Vranac variety.
