POTISJE

Potisje wine region comprises scattered vinegrowing oases near the Tisa River, on the Banat and Backa sides, from the town of Kanjiža to the confluence of the Tisza and the Danube. Potisje wine region is composed of 3 sub-regions: North Potisje, Middle Potisje and South Potisje, the largest being the vineyards of North Potisje.

Vinegrowing oases that are part of North Potisje sub-region are: Ekenda, Banja Kanjiža, Filić, Čoka, Senta, Ada and Mol.

Vinegrowing oases that are part of Middle Potisje sub-region are: Novi Bečej, Biserno Ostrvo (Pearl Island), Čurug-Bačko Gradište and Taraš.

Vinegrowing oases that are part of South Potisje sub-region are: Mošorin, Vilovo, Lok and Titel.

According to 2012 data, there are 253 hectares of vineyards in the region of Potisje, with the largest areas under vineyards located in the territory of Čoka municipality. The vineyards  spread at altitudes of 70 to 100 meters with the exception of Titelski breg (120m).

Soil: The predominant soil types are Chernozem and Fluvisol, and to a lesser extent other soil types can be found.

The moderating factor affecting the local microclimate is the proximity of the Tisa River.

Grape Producers: In this region, 654 households own vineyards. The largest number of vinegrowers is located in Zrenjanin municipality.

Varieties: Muscat Croquant, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat Hamburg, Blaufrankisch, Muscat Frontignan, Merlot
