About us

Vinopedia was launched in 2010 thanks to an unusual encounter and common energy shared by Tomislav Ivanović from Serbia and Baptiste Matoso from Switzerland. It has proven that wine world knows no boundaries and nationalities, that wine lovers are similar no matter where they originate from: Serbia, Switzerland, China or France.

Meanwhile, Baptiste turned to other interests, whilst Tomislav Ivanović patiently, unobtrusively and with great dedication continued working on Vinopedia ... The goal from the very beginning was to explore wine identity of Serbia, transmit almost forgotten wine stories from the region of the Balkans, and at the same time, teach about world's famous wine regions, discover authentic wines and spread wine culture.

Over the years, Vinopedia has become synonymous with authentic content, reliable, trustworthy, objective and impartial writing. There are few wine-related websites in Serbia that don't allow promotional content paid by wineries, and Vinopedia is one of them.  Vinopedia is a place where wine experts, sommeliers, winemakers, wine merchants and everyone interested in wine can come to discover the latest news, deepen their understanding of Serbian wine regions, grape varieties, wines. Vinopedia is a place where one can get recommendations for wines that are currently available on the market, personally chosen by Tomislav Ivanović.

In 2016, Vinopedia became the first Eastern European wine-related website to win the Millésima Blog Award in Bordeaux (France). We also participated as a jury member in selecting the best wine blogs at the international wine writing competitions Hungarian WebWineWriting Award 2018 and the Millesima Blog Award 2019.

In the latest edition of wine encyclopaedia The Oxford Companion to Wine written by Jancis Robinson, Vinopedia is listed as a reference in the section about Serbia.

Vinopedia is also one of the organizers of the International Prokupac Day and Novi Sad Wine Salon. Thus, we actively support  promotion and development of wine culture in Serbia. As a local partner of Wine Mosaic, we also support wine diversity and preservation of autochthonous grape varieties.

WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT US

"When a workable solution is found for the political situation in this region, Serbia may well emerge as one of Europe's great wine regions. The website Vinopedia is devoted to that future hope." (www.wine-searcher.com)

"Prokupac looks set to be the country's best hope of an indigenous flagship variety and two enterprising wine writers Igor Lukovic (editor of Serbia's leading wine magazine Vino & Fino) and Tomislav Ivanovic (vinopedia.rs) recently set up a Prokupac Day initiative with tastings and a conference to discuss and explore wine styles, quality potential and marketing strategies" (www.jancisrobinson.com)

"The big, bad Serb of the group! Lovely guy who seriously knew his eggs. When he won the award it made the national news in Serbia, and after watching him on his phone all week I worked out it’s because any wine-o in the Balkans worth their salt is mates with Toma."  (www.pleasebringmemywine.com )

"It sounds incredible since I come from Župa, but I learnt quite a lot of new information about Župa wine region due to the fact that I had read them on Vinopedia pages (Milan Aleksić, a winemaker from Župa)

"Because he is dedicated, literate and honest. Because he does not write for money. Because he unconditionally supports small winemakers and authentic wines. Because he persistently digs through the archives and reveals details about the rich wine history of Serbia. Because he spreads the word about Serbian wines and terroir. Because every moment of his spare time is used to visit wine regions all over the world. " (Vino & Fino)
