Pusula winery & vineyards are owned by company Astra ITB from Belgrade. The company was founded in the beginning of 1990s. A few years ago, the owners of this company, Radomir Savić and Jovo Mikanović, made a decision to focus their creative and entrepreneurial energy onto vineyards and wine-making on his family estate in the village of Miličica.
The winery was named after a small hill on which the vineyards were planted in the autumn 2006. Year after year, the vineyards expanded further onto adjacent plots of land, so nowadays, Pusula vineyards have reached the surface of 12 ha, while additional 4 ha are grown by subcontractors with assistance, expertise and monitoring provided by experts from the winery.
The renaissance of vine-growing in the village of Miličinica began shortly after the liberation from the Turkish rule. Since 1863, when about 10 ha were planted on the territory of the village, until 1900, land covered by vineyards expanded to 200 ha. This region is characterized by excellent conditions for growing grapes, therefore, it makes no wonder why the slopes of Cer and Vlašić mountains were covered by vineyards in the past. Unfortunately, 20th century wars, fast industrialization after the World War Two,when rural population swarmed into cities and industrial plants, as well as ruinous taxation policy which imposed hefty tax liabilities to vine-growers, all contributed to gradual disappearance of vineyards in Miličinica and the surrounding area. This also meant disappearance of old grape varieties which were well-adapted to local climate and terrains.
Nowadays, Pusula winery is making attempts to restore the former wine-growing glory of Pocerina region. Pusula winery has selected the following high-quality international grape varieties for its vineyards: Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Gewurztraminer, Semillon, Merlot, Muscat Petit Grain, Tempranillo, Shiraz, Marselan.
